Hi, I'm Marisa.

My personal mission is to find and promote evidence-backed ways to help people and institutions make more value-aligned decisions. I'm passionate about data, social sciences, policy, effective altruism, and more broadly, making the world a better place.

Recent Experience

Rethink Charity

September 2018 - Present

I help oversee Rethink Charity's day-to-day operations, including HR, legal compliance, and finances. In addition, I've also helped with outreach on the EA Giving Tuesday project, which raised over $900,000 for high-impact charities; copyedited and helped launch RC Forward's new website; wrote promotional and instructional materials for our Donate Your Holiday campaign for EA-endorsed charities; and developed a system for measuring and executing our organization's OKRs (objectives & key results).

ALLFED: Alliance to Feed the Earth in Disasters

October 2019 - Present

I advise ALLFED on social research efforts, most recently on ALLFED's work to develop a back-up communications system in events that disrupt modern technology. I've also surveyed ALLFED's publications for social, political, and economic assumptions for future study.

Shawn M. Donnelley Center for Nonprofit Communications

August 2019 - December 2019

At the Donnelley Center, I supported nonprofit clients with their public relations projects by creating media kits and media contact lists. I also led two focus groups to guide one nonprofit's rebranding, researched grant opportunities for clients, and created an introduction to fundraising guide for newly-formed nonprofits.

Loyola University New Orleans

August 2016 - December 2019

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (concentration in Social Justice & Inequalities), a minor in Business Analytics and a certificate in Software Development & Coding. I'm also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Sigma Nu, and Phi Sigma Tau honors societies.

Past Work

Value Drift in the Effective Altruism Movement

For my undergraduate thesis, I researched reasons why effective altruists (EAs) might withdraw from their values and the movement as a whole, and how we can apply that research to EA movement building.

Introduction to Nonprofit Fundraising Guide

At the Donnelley Center, I created a fundraising guide aimed at introducing new nonprofits to different types of funding sources and development techniques.

Eco-Agric Uganda's Sponsor A Girl Project

While volunteering at Eco-Agric Uganda, I collaborated with volunteers to set-up a Sponsor a Girl project, recruiting donors to pay for rural Ugandan girls' education.
